UK Sanctions List Check: Verify Names Against FCDO

Performing a UK sanctions list check is a critical due diligence step for many businesses operating in or with the United Kingdom. Following Brexit, the UK maintains its own independent sanctions regime, with the UK Sanctions List published by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Our screening aid helps you quickly verify names against this FCDO list, alongside other key global sanctions databases, providing you with information for informed decisions related to your operations.

What the UK Sanctions List Covers Post-Brexit

Since leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom has established its own autonomous sanctions regime. The UK Sanctions List is published by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). While the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) within HM Treasury implements financial sanctions, our tool screens against the FCDO's comprehensive UK Sanctions List. Businesses must confirm their specific obligations with their own adviser, but typically, entities subject to UK jurisdiction need to screen against the FCDO list to identify potential dealings with designated persons or entities. Our tool helps by including FCDO data refreshed daily.

Checking a Single Name for Free

You can perform a quick UK sanctions list check for a single name directly on our homepage without any signup or payment details. This free service allows up to 10 checks per day per visitor, providing an immediate snapshot. Every check, free or paid, screens against eight critical official lists: OFAC SDN, the US Consolidated Screening List (US CSL), the EU Consolidated Sanctions List, the UK Sanctions List (FCDO), the UN Security Council Consolidated List, France's registre national des gels, Poland's lista sankcyjna MSWiA, and the Swiss SECO consolidated list. Lists are updated daily, providing information for your due diligence.

Why UK Firms Also Screen EU and OFAC Lists

Even with a distinct UK sanctions regime, many UK businesses find it prudent to screen against the EU Consolidated Sanctions List and OFAC lists. This is often due to international business dealings, supply chains that span multiple jurisdictions, or simply as a robust risk mitigation strategy. While your primary legal obligation might be to the UK list, understanding exposure to other major sanctions regimes can be vital for comprehensive due diligence. Our service automatically includes these critical lists in every check, providing a broader screening perspective.

Bulk Checks from a Spreadsheet

For larger screening needs, our paid bulk check service allows you to upload a CSV or XLSX file containing multiple names. Simply upload your spreadsheet, confirm the column with names to be screened, and we will process the data. A detailed report is then sent to you by email in PDF and CSV formats, with JSON also available. Each report line includes the input name, match result, matched list, a match score, and a per-list timestamp. Even with zero matches, the report confirms 'no match found' for each list and timestamp. Our deterministic fuzzy name matching handles transliteration variants and aliases, without relying on AI judgment or LLMs.

Frequently asked questions

How does the UK sanctions list check work on this site?

Our tool checks the name you provide against the official UK Sanctions List (FCDO) and 7 other global sanctions lists. We use deterministic fuzzy name matching to identify potential matches, even with variations or aliases. The results are presented clearly, indicating any potential matches along with a match score. Remember, every potential match requires human review by your team.

Is this tool an official UK government service for compliance?

No, sanctionlistcheck.com is a due-diligence aid designed to assist small and medium businesses with their screening processes. It is not an official government service, nor does it provide legal advice or certify compliance. You should always confirm your specific obligations with your own legal or compliance adviser. The ultimate responsibility for compliance decisions rests with your organization.

What data security measures are in place for my uploaded files?

Our stored data is placed in Cloudflare's Eastern Europe region (EEUR location hint). Every request passes through Cloudflare's global edge network, which can be outside the EU. Name matching normally runs on a matching server in Helsinki, Finland, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH; if that server is not available or returns an error, or if we switch it off, the matching runs in Cloudflare's network instead, which can be outside the EU. Uploaded files and generated reports are automatically deleted from our servers no later than 24 hours after your upload. Customer data is never used to train any AI models. Our process is designed with your data privacy and security in mind, providing a secure environment for your screening needs.

sanctionlistcheck.com is a due-diligence aid, not an authority. It provides screening information and does not offer legal advice, certify compliance, or approve counterparties. Every potential match requires human review. Responsibility for compliance decisions remains with the user's organisation. Confirm your specific obligations with your own adviser.
